With the school year concluding this week I’d like to express my gratitude, for the final time in 2020, to all our families for your incredible support of the College throughout the year. The strength of any community is most clearly evidenced through challenging times, and we are so grateful for the flexibility, understanding, patience and kindness our parents have demonstrated as we’ve adapted to the twists and turns of the year.

Thank you to our staff for your incredible work over the course of the academic year. We are so fortunate to have such a committed and talented team of professionals. You inspire our students, and you challenge each other. The quality of a school cannot exceed the quality of its staff. Our College is exceptional because of your dedication to the students.

To our 2020 graduates, with whom we celebrated your final school events at Thanksgiving and Formal this week, we wish you all every blessing, success and happiness with everything that lies ahead of you. We will follow your progress with great interest. Remember always that you are an old Scholar of ������Ƶ����, and that there will always be a home for you here amongst the ������Ƶ���� family. Congratulations to you all on your achievements this year. We are very proud of you. God bless you.

And to our students more broadly, thank you for your contributions to ������Ƶ���� during the year. As ambassadors of our College you conduct yourselves exceptionally well. We are very proud of the way you care for each other and strive to support your peers to be the best versions of themselves. Congratulations to those who received awards at Thanksgiving this week. This recognition comes on the back of some very hard work and is well-deserved. Have a wonderful holiday, look after your families and keep yourselves safe.

I wish for you all every blessing and every happiness through the Christmas and New Year period. May the holidays provide for you all an opportunity to spend some quality time with family and friends, and a chance to enjoy some respite from the challenges of the year.

In the final Vine newsletter for 2020, I want to take this opportunity to thank our community for your unwavering support of the College. This year has, of course, been like no other in history and it has tested each and every one of us. Throughout this year, the College made a number of considered decisions that were made in the best interests of our students. We appreciate that there was uncertainly for everyone at times, but we were so pleased at the end of the year to be able to celebrate with parents at some of our functions. Some of our events had to look a little different but all were recorded for anyone unable to attend. Thank you again for your commitment to ������Ƶ���� and we look forward to a positive start to 2020.

The 2020 Semester Two reports were released today on the SEQTA platform and we encourage you to discuss with your children the results achieved. All students are to be congratulated on their results this year and hopefully they are happy with the results achieved. Now is a good time to set some personal goals for 2021 and plan ahead for next year. Many of our Senior ������Ƶ���� will be completing new subjects next year and the notion of having a study plan will help provide a good platform to achieve success in 2021.

I want to congratulate our graduating class of 2020 and thank them for soldiering on in the face of uncertainty. Their willingness to stick at the task was evident during the Spring Carnival and the last official day of school where their true personalities shone through. As they move into the next phase of their lives, I ask them to remember that ������Ƶ���� will always be there for them. I encourage all our old scholars to stay in touch with our close-knit ������Ƶ���� community.

I hope you all have a wonderful break over the Christmas period and can spend time with the people that matter most in your lives. I look forward to seeing you all at the start of 2021.

ACTING HEAD OF MIDDLE SCHOOL

In a year full of disruption, uncertainty and continuous change i am so proud of all of our students and staff who have continued to be resilient, adaptable and still managed to achieve great things this year.

In a year where wellbeing has gone from the front of our minds to the only thing in our minds, I am again so proud of how our students and staff have cared for each other by showing kindness, respect and most importantly patience as we all dealt with the challenges of 2020 in our own way. Although we were physically distanced at times this year, we were mentally huddled together consistently looking after and caring for each other.

The end of this school year will mean different things for all of our students.

Our Year 6s will no longer be the youngest in our Middle School. They have made it through, I think the most challenging year in Middle School. They have all grown so much in many different ways this year and should all be very proud of how they have transitioned into mature Middle School students. Now it’s time to step up. It’s time to be leaders. 2021 Year 6s will be looking for guidance and to show them the way, as they begin their Middle School Journey with us. I know our Year 6s are ready for this new challenge.

Year 7s have an important year ahead of them as they begin to transition out of the primary years and into the senior years. They will experience new and more teachers in their daily routine and Year 8 is a time where we really develop leadership skills preparing for formal leadership opportunities. I’m really looking forward to seeing them all step up and embrace the challenges ahead.

We will all be looking to our current Year 8s to show the way for the rest of us in 2021. Year 9s will all be leaders next year and it is so important that they show the youngest members of the Middle School our expectations around learning, behaviour and presentation. As the eldest students in the Middle School, the actions of Year 9s will filter through to our youngest students. It’s so important that they are stewards of the Middle School, and it’s their time now, to write their legacy.

Finally, I would like to congratulate our Year 9s on finishing an important chapter in their learning journey with us. I know they are well prepared for the new challenge of Senior School and will remember to do their best in every task, no matter how unimportant it might seem at the time. The best way to prepare yourself for tomorrow is by doing your best today. Good luck and work hard.

Staffing 2021��

Over the last term our staff have been engaged in the complex professional process of class allocations as they consider the best placement for every student in their care.��This exercise has now concluded and involved the evaluation of the social, emotional and academic needs of every child, and draws on the teachers’ extensive knowledge of and close connection with their students.��Our specialist teachers have also been involved in this process to ensure we have considered all aspects of learning and wellbeing.��Thank you for your continued trust to make these decisions in the best interest of every child.

Our move up day on Thursday 3 December, where the children met their teacher(s) for next year, was a great success and I hope has assisted both the children and their teachers to start building those all-important relationships.

We provide a high standard of teaching excellence in the Junior School and new members to the team have been selected following a rigorous process to ensure your children experiences the best, so that they can be their best.

Resilience / student leadership announcement ��

A continued focus this year at the Junior School was resilience, with Junior School and Community Captains being decided and communicated, it is important to remind both children and parents about this way of thinking.

Resilience refers to one’s ability to successfully manage life and to successfully adapt to change and stressful events in both healthy and constructive ways. In simplistic terms, it is our survivability and “bounce-back-ability” to life experiences and that means both the really advantageous ones as well as the really challenging, traumatic ones.

While some parents and carers try and avoid their children having negative experiences it is actually much needed. A child needs to experience disappointment, challenge, failure and a lack of boundaries to fully develop the specific interpersonal, personal and social skills that are needed for people to live in communities.

������Ƶ����’s Junior School is an amazing environment to come to each day due to the support we receive from our community. So, in these times, when it is tough, when life is not exactly fair, and your child misses out on an opportunity please understand that we will work with you and your child to build those skills to manage and adapt to stressful events.

I wish to express my thanks to the many students who were great risk takers and applied for a Captains position, I know hearing that you were unsuccessful will make your feel sad. I want you to remember that you are still a very important part of our community, I ask for your leadership next year as you are role models to the younger students in regard to the expectation about behaviour and uniform each and every day.

As this is my final newsletter for the year, I would like to take this opportunity to commend the Junior School staff to you.��I have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside them as they craft rich and engaging learning experiences aimed at developing the whole child.��������Ƶ���� is a special place with a strong and connected community and it has been an honour to be a part of the journey with your children this year. Parents and grandparents are such an important part of the fabric of school life and your support has been greatly appreciated.

I would like to wish Libby Graham (PYPC), Mary Beresford (Year 2) and Sarah Davis (Reception) all the very best with their new adventures in 2021 and thank them for their care and service to the many children and families at ������Ƶ����.

2022 ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Registration is NOW OPEN

Registration for 2022 Academic Scholarships are now open to both new enrolments and current students and awarded following the ACER examinations. The value of the scholarships is up to 50% tuition fee remission with Scholarships being reviewed on an annual basis to monitor the student’s continuing performance.��It is expected that recipients will complete their schooling at ������Ƶ����.

The ACER scholarship examination will be held at ������Ƶ���� Christian College, 12-30 Surrey Farm Drive, Golden Grove on��Saturday, 6 February��2021.

Online registrations are now open and the closing date for registrations is Thursday 21 January 2021. The fee to sit the scholarship test is $110.

ARMY CADET UNIT

The Golden Grove Australian Army Cadet Unit – 432ACU is going to be starting up in Term 1, 2021!������ It will be operating from Golden Grove High School, however as this is a��community youth program��it is open to��all��eligible youth within our community.

Army Cadets is a youth program that teaches young people to be confident, self-sufficient, and willing to “have a go”. It’s an opportunity to discover new challenges and have some unbelievable fun. Cadets also learn to lead others and work as a member of a team. There is a strong belief in Cadets teaching Cadets. The Army provide uniforms and most equipment needed, and on the annual camp they also provide accommodation, food and travel. There will be small fees involved when cadets do weekend unit activities, usually a couple of times each year.

We intend to parade (meet) each Tuesday from 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm during the school term and planning to start in Term 1, Week 4.

To join Army Cadets you must:

• be a resident of Australia
• be at least 13 years of age and be in Year 8
• not have reached the age of 17
• agree to the code of conduct
• be available to participate in most Unit activities
• have parent/ guardian consent

JUNIOR PRIMARY NATIVITY MUSICAL

Year 2 students have been exploring the Transdisciplinary Unit of ‘Who We Are’. Our Christian identity is at the centre of the Line of Inquiry: Why we are who we are. As such, the Nativity has been a focal point of our investigations. With the intention of promoting lifelong learning by adopting a positive growth mindset, the students have demonstrated their skills in risk-taking and communication through The Arts. The culmination of their efforts was evidenced in their spectacular presentation of ‘A Midwife Crisis’.

Congratulations to all our Year 2 performers and visual artists who created the backdrops, as well as all our Junior Primary dancers and singers who took part in the performance!

CHRISTMAS PAGEANT AT PEDARE

To bring the Christmas spirit to the College, Middle School Captains organised a Christmas Pageant for their final community gathering. On Thursday 3 December, a group of Middle School students dressed up in some wonderful Christmas themed costumes and paraded in the Wattle Courtyard in front of their peers and teachers. Mrs Ingrid Moodley, Brooklyn Community Coordinator commentated as each group of festive students walked around the concourse before heading to Main Street in the Junior School. The younger members of the College were very excited to see such a unique parade as lollies were handed out along the way. Of course, the highlight was Father Christmas arriving in his sleigh driven by Mr Mat Franks.

On the morning of Friday 4 December, the Junior School held their Thanksgiving Service. The ceremony began with the traditional ‘Lighting of the Candle’ by Dakota Illman which was followed by a wonderful video of all the highlights from each year level about what they are thankful for.

The Term 4 Head of Junior School Awards recipients were then presented with their certificates before the 2021 Junior School and Community Captains were inducted and presented with their badges. Congratulations to all of those students.

At the end of the ceremony, the Year 9 band played a beautiful rendition of the Birds of Toyko song, Lanterns as the Year 5s were led from the Chapel in a procession by the Middle School Captains.

MIDDLE SCHOOL THANKSGIVING SERVICE

The Middle School Thanksgiving Service was held on the last day of term, Friday 4 December. Congratulations to all recipients of Academic Excellence, Citizenship, Endeavour and Special Awards which were presented to students throughout the afternoon. Special congratulations to the Dux from each year level, Fiona Cheng, Year 6, Keziah Chung, Year 7, Grace Collins, Year 8 and Inseo Yoon, Year 9. The Year 6 presentation of Oscar Elding and Ojus Thakur on Climate Change, Year 7s poetry overview of 2020, Year 8 ‘Ballad of 2020’ and Year 9s video of their Visual Art Mural inspired by Year 3s was also very entertaining. Other highlights included Inseo Yoon’s violin solo playing ‘Romance’ by Tchaikovsky and the fabulous performance by the Year 9 Class Band.

SENIOR SCHOOL THANKSGIVING SERVICE

The Senior School Thanksgiving was held on Monday 30 November in the College Chapel. This formal occasion was to farewell our Year 12s before they embark on the next journey in their lives. Masters of Ceremony were our 2021 College Captains Mia Furlan and Vas Nair who presented to a limited number of staff and family due to the Covid restrictions. At the service, Year 10 and Year 11 Academic Awards were presented to students before Year 12s took to the stage in their communities for the very last time after receiving their Bibles and certificates. Before the Special Awards were announced and trophies and medals were accepted by recipients of these awards, 2020 College Captains, Maya Smale and Cooper Schahinger gave an overview of the school year.�� This year there were two Dux for Year 11, Holly Schutz and Shannon Taylor and Dux for Year 10 is Jenna Robertson.

Finally, the 2020 Year 12s were led by the piper from the Chapel amongst a round of loud applause from the audience.

YEAR 9 – COMMUNITY PROJECT

Due to Covid-19 restrictions this year, we were unable to hold the annual Year 9 Community Project Display Evening for parents and members of the community to view the display. As an alternative, Year 9 students have collaborated on the following video, with a brief summary of the project they completed earlier this year. We hope you enjoy seeing their accomplishments.

YEAR 12 – FORMAL

What a fabulous night the Year 12 Formal turned out to be. With so much organisation after the original venue Sfera’s had to be cancelled due to Covid-19, it was finally held in the College Chapel on Tuesday 1 December. The Class of 2020 were still able to have a wonderful night of celebration to finish off their year. All students looked stunning in their outfits as they enjoyed entering the foyer on the red carpet under the balloon arch, having a meal at the beautifully decorated tables, laughing and talking about their time at ������Ƶ���� and finally getting up on stage for some dancing. Thanks go to Mrs Michelle Smale, Mrs Clare Piercey and Mrs Dee Hannam for putting together this lovely evening at such short notice.

Another highlight was Oliver Shephard-Bayly, 2020 Valedictorian, who gave a meaningful speech about how being a student at ������Ƶ���� has prepared the Class of 2020 for the next stage of their adult life.

STATE CHINESE LANGUAGE AWARDS

The Annual South Australian Chinese Language Teacher Awards Night was to be held on the Friday 27 November 2020 at the Elder Hall, University of Adelaide but had to be cancelled due to the current Covid-19 pandemic. These awards recognise excellence in Chinese language ability and diligent effort throughout the year.

This year, two ������Ƶ���� students were nominated to receive an award for their amazing efforts in 2020. Year 7 student, Hallie Smith, and Year 10 student, Jasmyn Vo, have excelled in Chinese throughout 2020, demonstrating exceptional language performance, attitude and effort. Both Hallie and Jasmyn won the award for being the most outstanding and enthusiastic students of Chinese language and culture and were presented with a certificate and small gift in recognition of their achievement.

Tea Tree Gully Anglican Church is a group of Christians who seek to serve Jesus in everything we do. Tea Tree Gully Uniting

Tea Tree Gully Uniting will be holding a Family Fun Day at the Banksia Markets on Saturday 5 December from 8:30am – 1:00pm at 600 Milne Road, Banksia Park. There will be glitter tattoos, Christmas craft activities, Balloon twisting and each child will receive a Christmas gift. Come along to enjoy a BBQ, Devonshire Tea and Christmas gift ideas. St Mark’s Anglican Church

St Mark’s Anglican Church currently have a 9:00 am traditional service and a contemporary service at 4:00pm. Please email office@stmarksgoldengrove.org.au to advise if you will be attending either service for COVID-19 requirements.
